It's awesome! it was packaged with extra care and arrived in two slim boxes that I tested the sword on. It's super sharp, not razor sharp but sharp enough to do damage. I wouldn't say you could cut through a person but definitely fatally wound them which I don't plan on doing.

I purchased this along with several other swords. Bottomline: you can really hurt someone or yourself with this weapon. However, if you plan on doing some sword battle with a couple of Samurai...you will definitely need either a better sword, or a 30 yard head start. But do not believe reviews that criticize this sword and it's sharpness or capabilities to do harm. It's sharp enough and will give even a novice an opportunity to train with something decent. If you want more "authenticity", you're going to have to reach into your wallet and pay a heck of a lot more.

This is a great blade, and pretty sharp. The blade in the picture is darker than the one you get, and I think that is to show off the hamon. Still, it is very sturdy and well made.

The blade fits tightly in the scabbard, no rattle, the fittings appear to be a non-magnetic alloy (blackened brass, perhaps), but everything from the sword collar and hand guard down through the handle is solid, maybe a touch overbuilt as far as thickness, but the fullers, or grooves (which are also well carved/executed), help its balance and make it sing. The handle wrapping is done in the proper alternating pattern, something all to rare in budget katana-style swords; the scabbard also has an alloy end cap, reinforcing the 'yanone' or arrowhead theme of the sword's fittings. The polish is satin and plain, good for hiding scratches from fibrous cutting media, and the long tip is counterpolished. Overall, a good choice for someone's 'first' or 'only' katana, or as a user/spare/surrogate for a more expensive or cherished blade.

Got it as a gift for my Birthday. It is pure awesomeness!! No its not a sharp sword but its heavy and real steal meaning it can do serious damage with mild force. Double Sweet!!!!!! Beautiful red and black blade highlights the folding laminations, solid construction. Hay bales yield smoothly. Details nice. I got it for the symbolism of the green and fish, and the red blade details -- Archangel St Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing (Green and fish) and Archangel St Euriel, the Source of Divine Wisdom (Red). Later, I might ask Ryan to have matching Wakizashi and Tanto made for me. I'll bet that the Archangel Raphael, the Source of Divine Healing, uses the sword to metaphorically cut out illness.

I haven't tested this sword yet, but it seem like the craftsmanship is very nice and durable for intermediate price tag. I grew up Hawaii a mostly Asian culture and I have wanted a great Katana for about 24 years. I have been to Japan, South Korea and China. I have looked at many shops and I have always found cheap swords that weren't worth the time or money. This sword on the other hand, is worth every dime. It is solid, well made, and I am proud to have this in my house. I'm not hating on any other brand, I have just found this sword to be worth the price. Also the artwork done on all of the prieces of this katana are crafted well. I have already ordered a wakazashi and Tanto from Ryumon to have a complete set. I know I will not be disappointed.

Traditional katana collectors may be put off by the lack of a hamon. But don't be fooled. A hamon is not necessary with the purity and heat treatment of the modern steel. It will resist chipping better than a traditional katana as well as take more abuse from flexing pressure. Hamons have disadvantages as well and should not be there if the the reasons for having them are non-existent.

This came with some very sharp edges from the casting. I had to shave those off to make it feel right. This is too light for my taste, as I train with it and the o-bokken at the same time.

Given the price, I was a bit skeptical, but was surprised that the quality was awesome. Good weight and balance. Very sharp. Some reviews have complained that it is made in China, but the Chinese have been making swords for over 2000 years. This is a Ten Ryu katana. One of the better low price swords, since a real Japanese katana would cost between $5000 and $50,000. Dual mekugi pegs add strength so there is no looseness between the nakago and ho. The hamon doesn't appear to be etched. I did however replace the saya with a leather wrapped one that I can wear over my shoulder.

My first katana and I love it. Well balanced blade and the fact that they engrave for free is nice. I got the electroplated black instead of red. The way they ship it is fantastic. Completely wrapped up in Styrofoam to ensure safe overseas travel. I would definitely buy again. Detail on the katana is nice too. Hope this helps.

I am a sword collector. Not the decorative type, I love the functional battle ready type. This sword is both in my eyes. It is well crafted with good balance would be good for a Zombie Apocalypse. I usualy love cold steel knives. This katana arrived a bit sub standard. There are rust spots about 2 inches long on the face of the blade. Also on the spine at about the center point on the blade there is a 3 inch rust spot. Most of the length of the blade was dull except for the tip. It appears as if the katana had been stored for a very long time or handled much before it was sold to me. I will however keep it and attempt to buff out the rust then sharpen.

For anyone looking for an authentic cutting sword, this is a great choice. This is the more refined version of the Hanwei Practical Katana Sword. I did some research and this rated well in many sword enthsiast forums. It comes with a tag from Hanwei that provides a serial number to document that this is a Hanwei sword. The workmanship is so beautiful for a sword of this price that I have not had the heart to cut with it yet. I may just buy another one and keep one for decoration and dedicate the other for cutting practice.

Full tang Authentic everything including beautiful hamon! I would recommend this blade to anyone looking for a cheap but well made and truly battle ready. I have put this blade through hell and back and it still looks amazing. However I have polished and sharpened along the way I have had this blade for about a year now and it is my favorite. This blade could match just about anything you see a warrior class cold steel katana do. the only thing better than this blade is one that has been deferentially hardened for authenticity but as durability is concerned for most people mono steel is fine, when made of high carbon steel.

The blade wobble a bit when holding it sideways, but you get what you paid for. It's mostly supposed to be a decorative piece, so i honestly didn't expect it to be able to be used

I like it, I like it alot. very sturdy and heavy sword. I think I will cut alot of pig carcasses with this sword!!

I love this sword! The coloring is beautiful and it came oiled with a plastic covering to protect the blade during shipping. I would have given it a full five stars, but the sheathe does not actually fit the blade, so the Katana knocks against the wood when it's sheathed, unlike the Mashiro that I bought earlier. Still a beautiful and sharp sword, just disappointed in the ill fit.

This bokken hurts! Definitely worth every penny and is extremely durable and worthy of this review. Great build quality.

Got it as a gift for my Birthday. It is pure awesomeness!! No its not a sharp sword but its heavy and real steal meaning it can do serious damage with mild force. The detailing is amazing and the ray skin is legit. Im ready for the Zombies. I recommend it and HIGHLY recommend it for any Michonne fan!!!!
